Utah's Southernmost Ski Resort Announces Opening Date, Lift Tickets Start at $9
Southern Utah’s Brian Head Resort dropped its 2026-27 winter opening day, amidst more news of a sizable capital investment for the resort. The ski resort is planning to start spinning lifts on November 6, 2021, conditions depending.
In addition to their notably early projected opening day, Brian Head also announced that the resort was investing more than $2M in snowmaking, lift infrastructure updates, and guest services ahead of the coming winter season.
According to a press release, nearly $1M of the investment went towards snowmaking updates for the mountain. A new pipeline will improve snowmaking efficiency and allow snowmaking crews to operate up to 24 snow guns simultaneously on Navajo Mountain, increasing capabilities by roughly eight snow guns.
“Early forecasts give us reason to be optimistic about the winter ahead, and our capital improvements put us in a stronger position to make the most of the conditions we receive,” said Tom Pettigrew, general manager at Brian Head Resort, in the press release.
“With a more efficient snowmaking system on Navajo Mountain, we can take advantage of favorable temperatures, open beginner terrain faster and build on natural snowfall when storms arrive,” he continued.

Updates to other mountain infrastructure include maintenance on lift components such as the Giant Steps Express gearbox, bullwheel on Blackfoot, haul rope on Roulette, and communications line on The Dunes.
Additionally, Brian Head Resort will introduce reloadable RFID cards and self-service pick-up-boxes for the 2026-27 season. Lift tickets purchased in advance start at just $9 on select dates at Brian Head Resort.
Brian Head is known in part for its long ski seasons, thanks in part to a base elevation of 9,600 feet. During the 2025-26 season Brian Head was the first Utah resort to open on November 21, 2025, although the resort delayed their opening day from the original date of November 7. Despite the delay, Brian Head still opened well before other Utah resorts, many of which started spinning lifts in early and mid-December.
As of now, Park City Mountain Resort is the only other Utah resort that has announced an opening day. The mountain is scheduled to open on November 20, which parent company Vail Resorts shared earlier this week.
