Truck Driver Nearly Takes Out Pro Downhill Mountain Bike Rider

Mountain biker narrowly avoids collision with truck.

Mountain biking is a dangerous sport, with falls onto the hard ground, rocks, and other obstacles often leading to some serious injuries. While it’s often up to the rider to keep themselves safe on the trail, outside forces can sometimes play a dangerous role.

Professional German downhill mountain bike rider Marco Lamaris had a pretty incredible near-miss during a practice run ahead of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Lenzerheide this past week. His riding was great, but a seemingly clueless truck driver nearly caused an incredibly dangerous crash, pulling across the course right as Lamaris was about to pass. Fortunately his quick reaction time allowed him to pull away just in time.

Marco went on to do pretty well in the qualifying rounds, finishing 14th after Q2 and just barely missing the finals. We’re mostly glad to see he managed to pull out of this without hitting the truck, though, as that almost certainly would have ended with serious injury or worse.
