Quebec’s Last Open Ski Resort Concludes Season This Weekend

Saint-Sauveur, Quebec — This is going to be the final weekend of the season for three Northeast ski resorts. Black Mountain and Jay Peak are scheduled to close on Sunday. Up north, one ski resort in Eastern Canada plans to remain open until Monday.
Sommet Saint-Sauveur reopened today for its final weekend of operations. It’s part of the Sommet ski resorts, an expansive group of mountains situated near Montreal. Sommet Saint-Sauveur has the longest ski season in the province, typically opening first and closing last. With the Habs playing on Saturday in Montreal with a 3-2 lead, it’s shaping up to be a big weekend for the Québécois.
Skiing Operations
From Friday to Monday, Sommet Saint-Sauveur will be spinning the E’Étoile chairlift for the weekend. It will service the Côte 72 Ouest and Nordique trails. Typically, there’s only one open trail, so they’ve done impressive work with snowmaking this season. The biggest day of this weekend will be Saturday, when they offer both day and night skiing. The day will also feature live music and other festivities. Sommet’s final day of skiing will be on Monday, which is known as Victoria Day for Canadians.
Summer Attractions
What makes Sommet Saint-Sauveur unique is how much they have going on in the summer. This weekend will also see the season debut of the F.U.N. Park, which has amusement park rides, a mountain coaster, mini golf, and ziplines. Other summer activities include camping, aerial adventure courses, and mountain biking. There’s also a waterpark with waterslides, a lazy river, and a wave pool. That will debut for the summer on June 12th.
A new attraction, a viewing platform, is currently under construction and will debut in August.
Summer Skiing
However, the ski season doesn’t technically conclude on Monday. In June, Sommet Saint-Sauveur hosts summer camps for terrain park skiers and riders. While technically not public skiing, it shows how well they preserve the snow.
Following Sommet’s closure, Killington will be the only ski resort open in the Northeast. The Vermont ski resort plans to stay open weekends as long as it can.
