New Hampshire’s Second-Largest Ski Resort Planning Various Upgrades

Lincoln, New Hampshire — Loon has spent the past several years modernizing its mountain. This has included a new mountain biking park, an eight-pack bubble chairlift (Kanc8), the refurbishment of an old high-speed quad to replace Seven Brothers, the Timbertown expansion, and snowmaking investments. It appears that the momentum will continue over the next few years.
Loon Mountain is planning for various projects down the road. Here’s a rundown of projects that could be coming to Loon Mountain soon.
The Gondola
This week, the U.S. Forest Service revealed a plan by Loon Mountain to replace its aging gondola with a new system. The proposal would see the White Mountain Express gondola, which was installed in 1988, replaced by a Doppelmayr D-Line system with 10-person Omega cabins. This would increase the lift’s capacity from 1,000 people per hour to around 1,800-2,400 guests per hour. Perhaps the most interesting part of the plan is that the base terminal will be located outside of the existing location in the Octagon Lodge. The goal is to have it open in late 2027 or late 2028, depending on their construction timeline, which would span one or two offseasons.
Glade Expansion
Another major plan going through the Forest Service concerns the woods at Loon Mountain.
Last year, the White Mountain National Forest released a proposal from Loon to add new glade skiing off Black Mountain. Guests would access this new tree skiing from an entrance located next to the top of the North Peak Express chairlift. This project would feature 300 acres of tree skiing. The egress route would feature a bridge and connect skiers to the Brookway trail. This follows the extensive snowmaking upgrades made to North Peak during the 2025 offseason.
The Forest Service document states that this project could be ready for the 2027 winter season. However, the timeline for this project remains uncertain, as the ski resort has not yet formally announced it.
The Other Gondola
Likely the next lift installed at Loon will be New England’s first pulse gondola. Announced in 2024, a gondola will connect the Town of Lincoln to the Timbertown base area. This lift is being built to accommodate the current residents and the planned future developments there. This project is currently undergoing review. Originally planned for the 2025-26 season, the timeline for this project is uncertain. Which brings us to…
South Peak
If you haven’t driven to the South Peak base area in a while, you’ll be blown away at how much has changed. New real estate developments are seemingly popping up everywhere, thanks to the new Timbertown expansion and the eventual pulse gondola. One example of this is The Heights, a new one to three-bedroom residence building that will be situated at the end of the Boom Run trail.
The other major construction at South Peak is for a new member’s club. Currently under construction at the South Peak base area, The Nest is a new facility that will cater to the homeowners at South Peak. It will feature a lounge with a bar, fireplaces, and a golf simulator. There will also be a sit-down restaurant, which the public will be allowed to dine at. Eventually, the plan is to replace the Pemi base lodge as well.

Suffice it to say, Loon will keep evolving in the years ahead, and it’ll be cool to see what they do next.
