Locals Fundraise for Man Injured in Serious Chairlift Accident at Oregon Ski Area

Locals are fundraising for a man injured in a chairlift accident at Mt. Hood Skibowl, Oregon, late last month.

According to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 caller reported just before 9:30 a.m. that a maintenance basket had fallen from the upper-bowl chairlift into “rugged terrain” with two employees inside. Both suffered traumatic injuries, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Multiple organizations, including the Hoodland Fire, Clackamas Fire, American Medical Response, Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue volunteers, and U.S. Forest Service law enforcement, responded to the accident. Despite lifesaving efforts, one person was pronounced dead at the scene, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The GoFundMe said that for the survivor, Evan Parsons, workplace compensation will help cover most “direct medical care.”

But, it added, “there are still many financial burdens that come with a life-changing accident that are not easily covered.”

“Lost income, travel expenses, time away from work for family support, rehabilitation needs, day-to-day costs, and the countless unexpected challenges during recovery all place enormous strain on a family already carrying so much emotionally,” the GoFundMe continued.

It aims to raise $12,000 and has raised around $4,000 so far.

Every donation, the GoFundMe said, “will make a meaningful difference for their family during this time.”

“Thank you for standing with them and showing them the strength of their community when they need it most,” the end of the message reads. To view the GoFundMe, follow this link.
