Arapahoe Basin Extends Ski Season Again for Another Weekend

Believe it or not, ski season still isn’t over in Summit County, Colorado. Arapahoe Basin has announced that they’ll be staying open for yet another surprise, bonus weekend.

Despite the fact that a low-snow winter had most resorts ready to pack things up at the end of April, a couple of late-season storms and the high elevation of some mountains in Summit have kept things viable in some spots.

Last season, A-Basin remained open into June. This year, they initially planned on a May 3 closing date. However, following 14 inches of new snow going into the weekend of May 3, Arapahoe Basin decided to add a bonus weekend from May 8 to May 10.

It appears that this bonus weekend didn’t quite satisfy the spring skiing wishes of Summit County skiers, and on Sunday, May 10, A-Basin announced that their new closing date would be Sunday, May 17.

The ski area will still close from May 11 to May 14 as planned in order to preserve snowpack, keep the snow surface from being further skied off, and give the mountain’s staff a much-needed break after a long season.

Despite recent snowfall, the mountain’s snowpack is still much lower than usual for this time of year, and high temperatures forecasted for the coming week could impact that further. A-Basin also asks that when the mountain reopens, folks refrain from throwing snowballs at the Lenawee Express lift, as the staff keep getting hit in the crossfire.

Starting on Friday, lifts will spin from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with normal weekend hours (8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.) on Saturday and Sunday.

Similar to the last two weekends, lift tickets are available for just $39, and 2026-27 Ikon Passes and A-Basin season passes can be used as well. A-Basin will have another weekend of live music at their base area, and select items continue to be 50% off at Arapahoe Sports.

We’d say ‘third time’s the charm’ for A-Basin’s closing weekend, but we’re all here for staying open as long as possible!
