"It Might Sound a Little Crazy": Pennsylvania Ski Resort Explains Why It's Making Snow in April
A new year, a new record for Pennsylvania’s Camelback resort.
As of Monday, April 20, 2026, Camelback was 11 days past the mark for its longest season in history since 1963, and the resort doesn’t seem to have any intentions of slowing down.
“We are still skiing with up to 10 feet of base on Cliffhanger, spring laps rolling, and a terrain park set up at the bottom. With Trail’s End Bar & Grill and our beach party vibe, Camelback has become the place to be this spring,” Camelback’s vice president and general manager, Jason Bays, wrote in an update.
“And tonight—we’re turning the snow guns back on,” he continued. See below for the resort’s social media post.

Bays went on to explain why Camelback’s taking the somewhat unusual step of continuing to make snow this time of year, but not before jokingly admitting that “it might sound a little crazy.”
“And yes…we probably are,” he wrote.
For one, he said, Camelback is committed to offering Pennsylvania’s longest ski season, “full stop.” The resort’s already met that goal, as no other mountains in the state remain open, according to onthesnow.com.
Bays also said that Camelback’s passholders “showed up all season for us and this is showing up for them.”
The snowmaking, too, provides the resort a way to draw down its slightly overfilled snowmaking ponds and protects the snow base from melting with a new layer.

Perhaps most importantly, Bays added, “This is just fun for our team, for me, and for this community.”
“We take pride in driving the local economy, bringing people into our community, and creating something worth showing up for even when the calendar says otherwise,” Bays wrote at the conclusion of his message. “We’re not closing the season. We’re redefining it.”
The continued push to stay open makes for an unusual—and, quite frankly, entertaining—contrast. While the bulk of the West’s ski resorts are now closed after an often warm and snowless season, Camelback is still running.
The goal for Camelback, as announced earlier this winter, was to stay open until May. Now, that lofty ambition is just weeks away.
