Didn't Ski Enough This Winter? Chile's Iconic Ski Resort Opens In Two Months

We’ve said it countless times over the last few months: the American West’s ski season was a bit of a disappointment.

Snowfall was well below average, temperatures soared, and many resorts are closing up shop early as Mother Nature refuses to let go of her balmy grip.

Meanwhile, Ski Portillo, Chile, known for being the crown jewel of South American ski resorts, is gearing up for another season.

“Following a winter in the Northern Hemisphere that left skiers and snowboarders wishing for more snow, Ski Portillo, Chile, is ready to deliver the turns they missed,” writes the resort in a press release before announcing its 2026 season operating dates. “The resort will open for the 2026 season from June 20 – Sept. 26, offering skiers an opportunity to chase winter south to the heart of the Andes.”

Ski Portillo logged consecutive above-average snowfall seasons in 2024 and 2025. Deep snowfall isn’t guaranteed this season, but the chance of having a good time at Portillo in June, July, August, or September is.

POWDER sent Amie Engerbretson and Todd Ligare to Ski Portillo during the 2024 season to film a week-in-the-life style video. Watch below for a glimpse into what skiing at Ski Portillo is like. Spoiler, it’s awesome.
