Can't Use Your Ski Pass Anymore? This Lake Tahoe Mountain Has a Steep Discount for You

Like other ski hotspots throughout the West, Lake Tahoe has dealt with a shoddy hand this season. The March heat dome capped off a warm, often wet winter, slowing or entirely stopping operations at local ski resorts.

But the season isn’t over yet, and Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe, Nevada, is throwing a life preserver to those who have a pass at a mountain that’s already closed.

The deal is simple. Show your 2025-26 season pass to another ski resort at the ticket window, and you can ski for $60. The kids’ discount (15 and under) is even cheaper at $30.

Both discounts more than halve the price of a usual Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe ticket. The resort, like many others, has variable pricing. This Saturday, April 11, a standard adult ticket costs $174. We’d much rather pay $60.

Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe’s announcement comes after a surge of wintry weather that helped improve conditions. Twenty-one inches of snow fell. The ski resort also made a late-season snowmaking push, firing the snow guns for three days straight. Per Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe’s webcams, snow coverage is spring-like, but solid. Closing day is still TBD.

“The snow conditions are really fun right now, and there’s no time like the present to take advantage of it and get in some great skiing and riding,” said Mike Pierce, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe marketing director, in a press release.

Only a few other Lake Tahoe ski resorts remain open, including Palisades Tahoe and Kirkwood.

As this weekend approaches, more snow might arrive. Freezing levels look finicky—that’s no surprise—but plenty of powder could fall, too.

“The two-week snowfall forecast map on OpenSnow, for the West, looks like the map we were hoping for in March, but we are getting it in April,” wrote Palisades Tahoe’s forecaster, Bryan Allegretto, in a recent update. “We will see rain showers for the lower elevations at times, including this week, but the upper mountain should be able to hold onto snow fairly well by April standards.”

How much snow are we talking about?

“For mid-mountain, around 17-23 inches are possible by Sunday, and 22-28 inches up top,” wrote Allegretto.

Don’t get too excited. At the same time, it would be wise to keep your wide skis tuned up. A rainproof ski jacket might also be a good choice.
