Sunniest, Snowiest Spring Ski Resorts Revealed
With the Easter holidays fast approaching, skiers eyeing one last ski escape before the lifts stop spinning are turning their attention to spring’s most coveted mountain conditions: long days, quieter pistes, and those elusive “bluebird” skies.
New research from Inghams Ski using multiple data streams has pinpointed the ski resorts most likely to deliver those perfect spring conditions. By analysing long‑term meteorological data, from sunshine hours and snowfall to elevation, temperatures, and visibility.
Inghams produced a “Bluebird Day Score” for more than 120 resorts worldwide, revealing the most reliable destinations for late‑season skiing.
Topping the list is Cervinia, Italy. Sitting high in the Aosta Valley, the resort’s lofty altitude and generous sunshine hours give it a strong track record for crisp, clear days well into April. Its wide, snow‑sure slopes make it a favourite among intermediates, while its cross‑border link to Zermatt adds extra appeal for mileage‑hungry skiers.
In fact Switzerland dominates the upper end of the ranking, with St. Moritz and Zermatt taking second and third place. St. Moritz’s Olympic pedigree and vast, sun‑drenched ski area continue to draw spring travellers, while Zermatt’s dramatic Matterhorn backdrop and extensive terrain cement its status as one of the world’s most iconic late‑season destinations.
Two‑thirds of the top 15 resorts are located in the Alps, with France and Switzerland each securing four places. France’s strongest performer, Les Arcs, ranks fifth overall. Meanwhile, Canada also features, with Sun Peaks and Lake Louise both earning spots thanks to their usually reliable spring snowpacks and bright, dry climates.
Laura Mason, Head of Destinations at Inghams, says the trend reflects a shift in how travellers approach late‑season skiing. “Higher‑altitude destinations typically retain snow for longer and are better positioned for clearer skies during spring,” she explains. “While weather can never be guaranteed, choosing the right resort, and doing a little research, can make all the difference.”
