Kimberley Mountain Resort Makes Progress on New Quad Chairlift

A multi-resort lift upgrade project at Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR) is well underway, with the first of four new chairlifts completing a major installation step over the weekend. Kimberley Alpine Resort in British Columbia had new lift towers installed for the updated Tamarack chairlift.

The Tamarack Quad lift will replace the old Tamarack Double chair, which was installed in 1998. A quad chair from Skytrac will be the mountain’s second lift of that size and be built along the same alignment as the old lift. Towers for the new quad were helicoptered into place over the past weekend, and the resort shared a video of it. New terminals were also installed for the lift earlier this month.

The updated Tamarack chair is slated to open in December of 2026. Kimberley has not announced an anticipated opening day for the 2026/27 season yet.

Kimberley’s Tamarack Quad Chair is just the tip of the iceberg for the RCR lift project, which was announced in May of this year. Fernie Alpine Resort and Kicking Horse Mountain Resort will also get new lifts over the next couple of seasons.

At Fernie Alpine Resort, a new high-speed detachable quad will be installed in place of the current Elk Quad chair in 2027, with an anticipated opening during the 2027/28 winter. The new Elk Express will shorten the ride time to mid-mountain by nearly 50% and improve the summer experience at Fernie.

Additionally, a new high-speed detachable quad will be installed at Fernie in 2027 to transport skiers from the bottom of Cedar Bowl to the top of Bear Chair, cutting down transit time to the top of Cedar Bowl from three lift rides to one. The new Cedar Bowl Express will also open over the 2027/28 winter.

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort will also get a new high-speed four-seater in 2027, which will replace the old Pioneer Lift. Skiers will be able to take the new Pioneer Express from the base of the resort to the base of Stairway Chair, giving a second option to access alpine terrain and an alternative to the Golden Eagle Express Gondola. The addition of the Pioneer Express will double base area lift capacity, starting during the 2027/28 winter.
