Norwegian Star Aleksander Aamodt Kilde Tears Achilles In Chile Training Session
It’s been a rough few years for Norway’s 21-time World Cup champion ski racer Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.
Kilde returned to the World Cup circuit last year after an injury and subsequent infection in 2024, but he opted to sit out the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.
He was making a push to return to full racing shape this summer with extensive training in Chile, but the Norwegian Ski Federation announced today that Kilde tore his Achilles in a training accident yesterday, October 14, 2026.
“Aleksander is now traveling home to Innsbruck (his base in Austria) for further medical examinations and assessment of treatment options with his trusted medical team,” says the Federation.

Kilde shared video clips of training at Chile’s Portillo and Valle Nevado in recent weeks, an annual pilgrimage for elite alpine ski racers preparing for the World Cup season.
The Federation didn’t specify where the injury occurred, but Ski Portillo closed for the season on Saturday, October 11, 2026.
He was presumably there at the same time, at least at one point, as his fiancé, all-time skiing great Mikaela Shiffrin. Shiffrin has not commented on the injury at this time.
