Loveland Ski Area Tests Snowmaking Ahead of Winter

Loveland Ski Area is getting closer to firing up its snowmaking system as the Colorado ski resort continues preparations for the 2026-27 season.
The resort recently had its snowmaking crew testing water lines and performing maintenance on snowguns across the mountain. The work is focused on making sure the system is ready to operate once temperatures become cold enough to support snowmaking.
Snowmaking has not started yet, but the latest maintenance work signals that the resort is getting closer to the beginning of its winter preparations. Resorts typically rely on periods of sufficiently cold and dry conditions to build an initial base before natural snowfall becomes more consistent.
60 Years Of Snowmaking At Loveland
This season will also mark a significant anniversary for the ski area, celebrating 60 years of snowmaking during the 2026-27 season. That milestone dates back to the early days of artificial snow production at the mountain.
Snowmaking allows ski areas to establish coverage on key trails before natural snowfall arrives and can provide greater consistency during the early portion of the season. At Loveland, the system has played an important role in preparing the mountain for generations of skiers.
