Tamarack Resort Invests Seven Figures in Snowmaking Expansion Ahead of 2026/27 Season
As summer turns to fall in Donnelly, Idaho, Tamarack Resort has big upgrades to its snowmaking system underway. Ahead of the 2026/27 winter, Tamarack has made a seven-figure investment to expand snowmaking coverage, improve consistency, and to take advantage of early-season cold snaps.
The expansion includes installing new TechnoAlpin TT10 tower-mounted fan guns, which will be permanently mounted to provide snowmaking along the length of the ‘Serenity’ and ‘Waltz’ trails.
Additionally, new TR10 mobile fan guns will be added to the fleet. In total, the expansion will add snowmaking abilities to more than 20% of the mountain’s terrain.
The expanded system will also address one of the biggest challenges Tamarack faces in snowmaking: short, cold weather windows. On average, there are 200 hours of snowmaking temperatures at Tamarack before Thanksgiving. However, the setup time required to transport, position, and manually operate mobile snow guns can quickly add up and cut into cold spells that last only a couple of hours.
Tamarack’s snowmaking teams will be able to operate the new TT10 snow guns as soon as conditions allow, maximizing snowmaking time. Increased snowmaking capabilities along Serenity and Waltz will allow Tamarack to open top-to-bottom terrain more reliably off Serenity, as well as significant beginner terrain on Waltz, which was widened last season to provide more space for new skiers. The new, permanent guns on essential areas of the mountain will also allow Tamarack to allocate mobile guns elsewhere.
“Waltz is where most of our guests learn to ski. Serenity is where they come back year after year. Covering both, completely, is an investment in the entire arc of a skier’s life at Tamarack Resort,” said an Instagram post by the resort.
In addition to the guns themselves, Tamarack has installed 1,515 ft. of ductile-iron water pipeline, 1,600 ft of buried electrical cable, six hydrants, and 12 reinforced pits to support the system.
Tamarack is planning to open for the 2026/27 winter season on November 27, 2026, conditions permitting.
