Utah Ski Resort’s New Chairlift Passes Crucial Hurdle
Sundance, Utah — The Electric Horseman is coming to life. Not the movie, but rather a ski resort’s new marquee chairlift.
Last week was a big milestone for Sundance Mountain Resort’s soon-to-be second high-speed chairlift. Helicopter crews flew in the lift towers to their new locations. Workers are now assembling the top and bottom terminals. The goal is to open the chairlift for the 2026-27 ski season.
What’s New At Sundance
The Electric Horseman is a new detachable high-speed quad chairlift. It will have a vertical rise of 1,850 feet and a ride time of around 6 minutes. It will drastically speed up laps on the Back Mountain, with the other existing lifts being fixed-grip. Most importantly, it will make the trip to the Bearclaw Cabin for nachos much quicker.
The Electric Horseman is coinciding with an expansion for Sundance. Formerly known as the Far Ridge Ridgeline, this access trail has been regraded and widened. The headliner for the new pod is Storyteller, a 1.7-mile-long double intermediate groomer with impressive views. The 100-acre expansion will also add three new expert glades off the new Storyteller trail. Last season, this terrain was supposed to open, but it didn’t because of a lack of natural snow. More advanced and expert terrain off Storyteller is planned for future seasons.
Last ski season saw the opening of the Inn at Sundance. This 63-room hotel features convenient access to the Outlaw Express chairlift. With a curated gallery, the hotel is full of artistic gems. Guests also have access to Sundance’s fitness center and The Springs.
Other recent upgrades include three new chairlifts, the Wildwood terrain expansion, a redesigned beginner learning experience, a new base lodge at the Jake’s base area, and a pool complex (The Springs).
