Aspen Snowmass Secretly Sold Lift Tickets for Less Than $4, More Cheap Days on Offer

It was, apparently, for a brief time when skiers and snowboarders online discovered that Aspen Snowmass—the glamorous and well-known group of Colorado ski areas—was, inexplicably, selling tickets for December 14, 2026, at only $3.75.
For context, as you probably know, that’s vastly cheaper than a standard Aspen Snowmass ticket, which, depending on the day and the demand, can run between $189 and $309. A flurry of Reddit posts appeared in the past day, clueing bargain hunters into the savings. And, perhaps to their surprise, some managed to scoop up a few of the dirt-cheap tickets.
“Boom! Family of 4 skiing Aspen for $11 bucks. You’re the GOAT!” read one comment on Reddit. Indeed, it was just like 1946.
But the deal didn’t stick around for long. Comments appeared noting that the tickets were no longer available. At the time of writing this, December 14 lift tickets now cost $209, although discounted $80 tickets for December 12 and December 13 remain available.
Aspen Snowmass nodded to the ruckus in a social media post, sharing a few memes, but didn’t explain exactly what had happened.
We’ll be waiting a bit longer for answers. A spokesperson for Aspen Snowmass told POWDER via email that there’s more to come in the next few days about the promotion and what it means. They also said that the $3.75 ticket sale, which “received a ton of interest,” was subject to availability and confirmed that it’s been temporarily paused but hinted that it may resume.
“We need to review to ensure we are managing capacity appropriately across our mountains,” they wrote. “Safety is our top priority, so once that review period ends, and we still have room for more, we will reopen the offer.”
Still, history provides some clues to the great ticket scramble mystery.
This upcoming season is Aspen Snowmass’ 80th, and ski resorts often host specials to celebrate landmark years. And guess what the cost of a lift ticket was on December 14, 1946, the day that Aspen Mountain opened, according to the Aspen Sojourner? $3.75.
