After 12 Months of Skiing, Copper Mountain Is Finally Preparing To Close

Seemingly against all odds, Colorado’s Copper Mountain is just now wrapping up its season.

This coming weekend (September 5-6, 2026) will mark the final days of operation for Copper’s summer hike park.

The park’s closing date of Sunday, September 6, will also mark 12 consecutive months of skiing for Copper Mountain, which welcomed its first skiers last season in October.

Given the lackluster season Colorado and much of the country experienced last year, the full year of turns is an impressive milestone. Other ski areas that normally boast year-round operations, like Oregon’s Timberline Lodge, didn’t get quite as lucky this year.

The Hike Park was constructed this spring with snow preserved from Copper’s 22-foot Superpipe and opened for the summer on June 5. As the snow melted throughout the season, the park was frequently reshaped to continue providing the best possible conditions for summer skiers.

As part of Woodward Copper’s summer programming, the park hosted a number of camps and signature sessions with skiers and brands like Atomic, Surface Skis, Tom Wallisch, and Level 1.

Looking ahead to the 2026/27 season, Copper Mountain currently has November 7, 2026, as its scheduled opening day, conditions permitting.

World Cup ski racing season kicks off not long after in Summit County with the Stifel Copper Audi FIS World Cup races in Men’s Super G and Giant Slalom taking place at Copper from November 28-29. Halfpipe skiers and snowboarders will also compete in Copper’s superpipe on December 19th and 20th at the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix World Cup event.
