"Unexploded Ordnance" Found On Trail Temporarily Closed Solitude Over The Weekend
Regular weekend operations were interrupted at Solitude Mountain Resort on Sunday, August 30, 2026, due to a mysterious object found by mountain ops.
The resort posted to social media Sunday morning to say Solitude Mountain Resort Patrol had identified an object they believed to be an unexploded ordnance, prior to the resort’s trails opening for the day.
Patrol reportedly contacted the Unified Fire Authority and military personnel, who quickly arrived on scene to assess the situation. At the time of the post, no public hazards had been identified, and Solitude promised to keep the public updated.
Roughly an hour later, another post was made on the resort’s social media account stating that the situation had been “resolved” and that normal operations would resume.
The object was identified as “military in nature” and safely removed from the mountain. The object’s origins remain unknown, but it was transferred safely to the appropriate authorities.

“Prior to opening trails in the area, Solitude Mountain Resort Patrol identified an object believed to be unexploded ordnance. The appropriate authorities were immediately contacted and are on scene working alongside resort personnel to assess and safely address the situation. At this time, no hazard to the public has been identified. Unified Fire Authority and military personnel are on scene managing the response. We will provide additional updates as appropriate,” read the text from the first post.
“The situation has been safely resolved, and Solitude has returned to normal operations. The device, which was determined to be military in nature, was safely removed from the mountain and transferred to the appropriate authorities. Its origin remains unknown at this time. We appreciate the swift response and coordination of all agencies involved,” read the second.
Solitude is currently still open for summer operations through Labor Day. Following September 7, the bike park will remain open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until October 4.
The mountain is targeting November 20, 2026, as an opening date for the 2026/27 ski season, conditions permitting.
