This Washington Ski Resort Saw Snow This Weekend
Crystal Mountain Resort in Washington received an unexpected taste of winter on August 29th, with snow falling across the higher elevations of the mountain during the final days of peak summer operations.
The ski resort shared video of the late August snowfall on social media, describing the weather as a pleasant surprise following a chilly morning in the Cascade Mountains.
Snow Falls Across Higher Elevations
According to Crystal Mountain, the snowfall was most noticeable around the upper portions of the resort. The King and other higher peaks around the mountain received much of the dusting, while snow continued flying at high elevations.
Conditions lower on the mountain were more mixed, with Crystal Mountain reporting a combination of precipitation around mid mountain.
While late summer snowfall can occur at higher elevations in Washington’s Cascade Range, the sight of snow in August is still an exciting reminder that winter is slowly approaching.
The resort said the chilly morning and clouds moving through the Powder Bowl created a memorable end to the peak summer operating season.
Crystal Mountain Shifts To Weekend Operations
The August 29th snowfall arrived as Crystal Mountain prepares to transition away from its busiest period of summer operations.
The resort will move to weekend-only operations through September 20th. Crystal Mountain will also be open on Labor Day Monday, September 7th.
The transition does not mean summer is over at the resort, though. Crystal Mountain isn’t saying goodbye to the warm weather just yet, even as the mountain begins preparing for the season ahead.
Summer weather often remains firmly in place across Washington well into September, but conditions at higher elevations often provide the first signs that autumn and winter are getting closer.
