Old Farmer's Almanac Releases Hopeful Winter Forecast for Utah, Colorado, and the Rockies
Last season was a doozy for ski resorts across the Intermountain West. Nearly every resort reported below-average snowfall, and even ski resorts in Utah’s Cottonwood Canyons were forced to get creative as Mother Nature didn’t cooperate.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac, which recently released its full Winter 26/27 forecast, is offering a sign of hope for skiers in Utah, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho this upcoming winter, with one caveat.
A large dark blue blob covers most ski resorts in these states, with the descriptors “Mild, Snowy.” We have to imagine that “Cold, Snowy” would be more favorable, but after last season, skiers in Colorado and Utah won’t complain as long as there’s snow on the ground.

The Old Farmer's Almanac
El Niño, perhaps the biggest buzzword being uttered in ski towns across America at the moment, can be a bit of a toss-up for the Intermountain West, and the Old Farmer’s Almanac seems to agree.
The publication’s Winter 26/27 forecast calls for “wet” conditions across the region, and notes that some areas of the Intermountain region could see “heavier-than-normal” snowfall.
The Farmers’ Almanac, a separate but similar publication, called for a mixed bag of weather for Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho as well. The region is split between “Rain or Mixed Precipitation, Mild”; “Cold, Snowy at Times, Breezy”; and “More Changeable, Less Dependable Snow”.
