Closest Ski Area To Boston Announces 2026 Upgrades
Canton, Massachusetts — Blue Hills has seen some big changes in recent years. Since the management change in 2024, Blue Hills has added new lifts, snowmaking upgrades, new groomers, a terrain park, and new rental equipment. More additions are planned for this upcoming winter.
Yesterday, Blue Hills Ski Area operator Geoff Homer detailed the changes coming to the ski area for this winter. These upgrades include two new rope tows, a relocated magic carpet lift, an upgraded patio at the base lodge, new lights for night skiing (thanks to a grant from Killington’s World Cup Foundation), four new fan guns, and new rental equipment from Elan Skis and Burton Snowboards. Likely on the docket as well are repairs to the base lodge, which some idiots decided to vandalize earlier this summer.
Blue Hills will host fall festivals on September 26, October 3, and October 10th. The opening date for the 2026-27 season has yet to be officially announced.
About Blue Hills
Blue Hills Ski Area features 16 trails, 6 lifts, and a vertical drop of 309 feet. It’s a part of the Blue Hills Reservation, which is owned by the State of Massachusetts. Geoff Homer took over the operation in 2024. Homer was the longtime operator of Pleasant Mountain (previously known as Shawnee Peak) before its sale to Boyne Resorts. During the summer, the ski area is quiet, but hikers and bikers often use the reservation. At the summit is the Blue Hills Observatory, the continent’s longest-running weather station.
