Utah Ski Resort To Debut 100 Acres of New Terrain and High-Speed Quad Lift
A long-anticipated upgrade to the slopes at Sundance Mountain Resort, Utah, is almost here.
The resort, in a release, detailed its brand new lift, the Electric Horseman, which will open with more than 100 acres of new terrain this winter alongside a 1.7-mile groomed run called Storyteller cut from the slopes formerly known as the Far East Ridgeline.
Storyteller pairs “sweeping turns with some of the most spectacular views on the mountain” and, for more advanced skiers, “introduces three new expert gladed chutes that weave through tree-lined terrain before flowing back to the base,” Sundance said.
The expansion concludes the first phase of Sundance’s back mountain expansion and brings the ski area’s acreage total to 605 with future plans for more expert terrain growth.
The new lift, a high-speed quad, was designed to improve access to Sundance’s back mountain terrain, according to the release, and increase uphill capacity. It spans more than 1,800 vertical feet and cruises to the upper terminal in six minutes.
The lift follows the debut of the Outlaw Express Lift in 2021, which cut the travel time to Sundance’s mid-mountain from 20 minutes to seven minutes, alongside two more recent additions, the Wildwood and Stairway lifts.
The Electric Horseman nods to Sundance Mountain Resort’s legacy. The late actor Robert Redford founded the ski area and, back in 1979, starred in a movie called—you guessed it—Electric Horseman. Redford sold Sundance in 2020 and died last year. But he remains a presence at Sundance. Earlier this week, the resort hosted a birthday celebration for the famed actor and environmentalist.
The slew of recent improvements at Sundance also includes the new Mountain Camp Day Lodge and the previous introduction of 50-plus new acres for intermediate skiers.
