Got Art Skills? Snowy Canadian Ski Resort Looking for "Featured" Local Artist
Fernie Alpine Resort, British Columbia, is on the hunt for a local artist to feature during the upcoming winter season. The callout, which is only open to Elk Valley residents, asks for submissions that depict Fernie and offers $750 in artist fees.
“The artwork should reflect the artist’s personal interpretation of the resort in the winter—think skiing and snowboarding, the iconic Lizard Headwall, five famous bowls, lift infrastructure or another creative concept that is distinctly connected to Fernie Alpine Resort,” the call out’s web page reads, also noting that it “must be clearly related to Fernie Alpine Resort rather than a general Fernie or Elk Valley landscape.”
A list of housekeeping items noted that the artwork should have a maximum of three colors and be submittable in vector format. Fernie said that it reserves the right to ask for minor adjustments while preserving the spirit of the original work.
As for the Elk Valley designation, it includes Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford, Elko, Jaffray or Grasmere and the immediate areas surrounding those towns. Would be featured artists must live in these places during the 2026-27 winter season, or December through April.
The chosen artwork will be printed on Fernie’s “Featured Artist” merchandise that will be available for sale at the Sports Alpine Retail shop for the winter 2026-27 season.
Earning the spot also comes with display space inside the Slopeside Café throughout the 2026–27 winter season, a dedicated Featured Artist profile on the Fernie website, and social media promotion on Fernie’s channels, among other perks.

For the uninitiated, Fernie’s one of several ski resorts on the famed “Powder Highway,” a stretch of road in eastern British Columbia known for deep snow and steep mountains—two traits Fernie has in spades. Or, in other words, a talented artist should have their work cut out for them. This is certainly a fun place to paint or draw.
