Vancouver Ski Resort To Revive Bike Park After More Than 2 Decades
After a two-decade hiatus, Vancouver-area ski resort Cypress Mountain will reopen its bike park next summer.
The park, which originally opened in 2005, is being rebuilt by Whistler-based trail-building company Gravity Logic, which has built and designed world-class mountain bike parks across North America. An Environmental Management Plan is in place as part of the rebuild to govern tree removal and other impacts throughout the process.
Although Cypress Mountain’s bike park has a history within the sport of downhill mountain biking, the mountain doesn’t want to just recreate a version of the park from the past. Rather, the updated bike park will have lift-accessed trails ranging from flowy jump lines to technical expert trails, serving every type of rider.
The new bike park is being built in three phases, with an expected opening for the 2027 summer season. However, from October 16-17, 2026, Cypress Mountain will host the Canadian debut of Red Bull Hardline. The event is known as the ‘world’s toughest downhill race,’ with previous courses featuring massive canyon gaps, freeride-style jumps, and mind-boggling speeds from riders like Asa Vermette, Jackson Goldstone, Gracey Hemstreet, and Louise Ferguson.
Cypress Mountain
Cypress Mountain is no stranger to big events, though. The bike park was initially put on hold in 2010, when Cypress acted as a host venue for the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Just 30 minutes from Vancouver, Cypress’ original bike park was a staple of mountain bike culture on British Columbia’s North Shore. Nearby, Grouse Mountain also opened a new bike park last year, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by mountain bike legends Wade Simmons and Brett Tippie. Riders like Simmons, Tippie, Richie Schley, and films like Kranked and North Shore Extreme helped to pioneer the early days of freeride mountain biking, which has evolved into a massive part of mountain bike culture.
