The Countdown Is On for Palisades Tahoe's Winter 26/27 Opening Day

The world has a funny way of working, doesn’t it?

Following one of the warmest heat waves of the year, Palisades Tahoe, known for being California’s largest ski resort by skiable acres, has announced its anticipated opening day for the winter 26/27 season.

Opening day, weather and conditions permitting, will be Wednesday, November 25, 2026.

That’s just 106 days away for those of you keeping score at home. Mammoth Mountain, Palisades’ neighbor to the south, anticipates opening the week prior on Friday, November 16, 2026.

Check out Palisades Tahoe’s full opening day announcement, along with some of the best moments from last season, in the Instagram post below.

Palisades Tahoe’s season started slowly last year. The resort was technically able to open during the Thanksgiving week, but only with a magic carpet and a makeshift terrain park.

Snow finally arrived in December, opening more of the mountain, but KT-22 didn’t open until December 30, 2025. The rest of the season was, well, interesting, as multiple blizzards fizzled out or were immediately followed by torrential downpours.

With the El Niño looming, Palisades Tahoe skiers are holding their breaths that the storm track will align better this season. If a southerly jet stream takes hold, be prepared for deep snowfall totals and cold temperatures at Palisades Tahoe and across the Sierra.

106 days will be over before we know it. I’m counting down, are you?
