Wisconsin Ski Area Owner Avoids Jail Time Following Altercation With Teenager
Wisconsin — One of the strangest stories from this past ski season came from Wisconsin.
In February, Tyrol Basin owner Nathaniel McGree was arrested following an altercation with a teenage guest. McGree discovered that the teenager was snowboarding without buying a lift ticket. After asking the teen to leave, he began walking back home via the access road. The owner chased down the snowboarder, allegedly assaulting him, and then bringing him back to pay them more than the cost of a lift ticket.
“I’m on the road with young teenager who was assaulted by the owner of Tyrol Basin,” said an unamed woman who called the authorites. “I found the teenager walking on the road out here in the country with his snowboard… So, the guy kicked him out and then he started walking down the highway and then this guy came out of the woods and chased him down and then that’s when he physically assaulted him…Then he grabbed him and pushed him to the other side of the road and grabbed him by his neck”
The owner was apprehended and arrested. He was charged with two counts: disorderly conduct and battery. However, it appears he won’t be facing jail time.
WMTW reports that he recently pled guilty to disorderly conduct. According to prior reports, he would have faced 11 months in prison if he were found guilty on both counts. However, by pleading no contest to disorderly conduct, he avoided jail time. Additionally, the battery charge was dropped. Ultimately, the owner will be charged for fees, meaning he pays for the money that was needed to litigate this case.
Meanwhile, it’s business as usual at Tyrol. During the summer, the ski area is home to a restaurant/bar and a volleyball league. A few snow storage systems are keeping the remaining patches chill in preparation for the 2026-27 season.
