New HBO Comedy Will Focus on Ski Resort Lifties and Corporate Takeovers

“I have a show in development,” actor and comedian Jimmy Tatro told the hosts of the Pardon My Take podcast on the Wednesday, July 22, 2026 episode. “It’s a comedy about four best friends that live on a snowboard mountain that gets bought by an Ikon Pass type of a company, and their mountain is about to start getting, like, gentrified.”

“It’s just like a half-hour comedy that we sold to HBO, and we’re just waiting on a final word,” Tatro tells the hosts.

While the series’ release date and cast have yet to be revealed, a May 2025 Deadline article provides more details. The series is called ‘Lifties’.

Tatro will star in the series and co-write and executive-produce with Dan Lagana. A24, the venerable studio known for films like Moonlight, Uncut Gems, and Lady Bird, is also signed on.

Tatro, 34, made a name for himself with countless YouTube videos and the millennial cult-classic Real Bros of Simi Valley. Hailing from Southern California, Tatro is a snowboarder himself and has been seen rubbing elbows with Shaun White at recent Snow League events.

It’s impossible for me to share opinions on Lifties without seeing a trailer, a release date, or even a screenshot of the project. So, I’ll hold judgment for now, but I will say this…

If Tatro nails this project, and I mean nails it in terms of it being funny and showcasing the issues of corporate takeovers of small, humble mountain towns, it could be something our generation points to as a Holy Grail of mainstream snowsports media.

It could be mentioned in the same sentence as films like Out Cold, Hot Tub Time Machine, Hot Dog…The Movie, and Dumb & Dumber. Or, it could be a massive flop that hurts the snowsports industry’s reputation. We’ll have to wait and see.

I have long thought, however, that lifties are some of the best and funniest people you’ll ever meet. Tatro nailed that at the very least.

And, if there’s any doubt that Tatro can actually snowboard, check out his 360s from last season below. Not too shabby.
