Colorado Fire Crew Escorted by Unexpected New Team Member: A Goat

I’ll level with you, this has literally nothing to do with skiing. I can’t even feign that this is ski-related. But you know what? It’s July. Not much is happening in skiing, at least in the Northern Hemisphere.

Unfortunately, what is happening is wildfires, lots of them, marching across the American West. In Colorado, a wildfire burning near Cheyenne Mountain State Park in Colorado Springs was dubbed the Rock Creek fire. While the fire started out fairly fast-moving, by Thursday, July 9, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department reported that it was more than 50% contained.

Local firefighters have been hard at work containing the Rock Creek fire. This past week, one crew got a little helping hand from a four-legged friend who decided to tag along, or rather, take the lead, according to a post from the Colorado Springs Fire Department. Goldie the goat was very determined to help the them on the fire and even helped to mitigate some easy-burning brush.

The CSFD later reported that Goldie belonged to a local family and had been safely returned home. However, Goldie and the crew formed a close bond after their day together, and Goldie’s owners sent the following video of the goat following her new friends into the field for the day.

Like we said, this has nothing to do with skiing. But if it brightens your day to watch Goldie the Goat as much as it did ours, especially amongst the turmoil happening amongst wildfires and heatwaves, then we’ll consider that a win. After all, skiing is just as much a way to find joy as watching goat videos on the internet.
