An Insider’s Guide To Skiing At Australia’s Thredbo Alpine Resort

Skiing at Thredbo in Australia.

It may be proper summer here in North America (even if there are a few ski areas with snow), but the ski season is just kicking off down in the southern hemisphere. If you’re planning on heading to Australia this summer and are looking to check Thredbo off your list of skied resorts, make sure you check out this mountain guide from SRG Skiing.

Thredbo’s 672 meter vertical drop is the longest sustained descent in Australia, and the resort’s extensive snowmaking helps it stay one of the more reliable mountains in the country, with the best conditions typically arriving in late July and August.

The guide breaks the mountain down section by section, starting with the beginner terrain at Friday Flat before moving through the busier Cruiser pod and into Central Spur, where wind loaded runs like Exhibition and Waimea hold some of the best snow on the mountain.

On the Crackenback side, the video covers the famous Supertrail along with quieter alternatives like Meadows and World Cup. It also spends time on The Basin, which the host calls the best snow at the resort, along with advanced terrain like Funnel Web and the experts only Golf Course Bowl.
