Snowboarder Grabs Powder Turns Following Rare June Snow Storm In Montana

An impressive snowstorm rolled through parts of the Northern Rockies earlier this week, leaving around a foot of new snow in some areas. For skiers and snowboarders with the willingness to get out there and do some hiking, that new snow meant fresh turns.
Snowboarder Trent Parker managed to grab some turns at Discover Ski Area in Granite County, Montana, on Monday, June 29th. It looks there was around a foot of snow on the ground where he was at, making for a seriously impressive run for late June.
As of around 10:30am on July 1st, there still appears to be a fair bit of snow lingering at the top of Discover, though it’s definitely melting. Actual snow on the trails seems to be less likely, so don’t assume you’ll find the same conditions if you head up there now.

The snow was probably wet and heavy, but snow is snow, and June turns are June turns. Most of us just deal with no skiing until October at the earliest. Those of us who do go skiing in the summer usually experience suncupped snow and scary conditions, unless they head down to the southern hemisphere. Huge props to Trent for getting out there.
