Japanese Tourism Website Uses Images Of Australian Ski Slopes To Promote For Next Winter

Australia — So far this winter, Australian skiers are saying “Oi vey.”
Australia’s ski industry is off to a very bad start this season. While ski resorts were able to open on time, warm weather over the past few weeks has kept the open terrain to a minimum. The rise of El Niño also brings future uncertainty.
However, Australians also like to travel, which can take them to destinations such as Canada, Japan, and the United States (home of the Outback Steakhouse) during their summer months. When things are bad, these destinations can use their struggles to promote bookings for next winter.
Last week, tourism company Myoko Snow Report shared webcam images from Australia’s ski resorts. By showing pictures of the snow-parched slopes, they are encouraging people to book for next winter. It does come as a bit ironic, as the webcam images show discounted tickets, but it ends up being a promotion for another country’s snow conditions. Myoko Kogen is a group of ski resorts that offer high-quality snow.
The weather window for Australia remains above freezing for the days ahead, but there’s a promise of a snowstorm from Thursday into Friday.
