Have Denim? You Can Summer Ski in Canada for Less Than $30

If you’ve got some denim, a flexible schedule, and a hankering for a bit more skiing, you might want to plan a trip to Sunshine Village, Alberta.

The ski resort, which reopened earlier this month for a few weeks of summer skiing, is offering a special on July 1: show up wearing head-to-toe denim, and you’ll score a discounted $40 CAD lift ticket (or about $28 USD). In other words, it’s time to break out the Canadian Tuxedo.

The discount joins an ongoing tradition at some ski resorts that pairs deals with jeans. Perhaps the best-known celebration is Ski in Jeans Day at Jackson Hole, Wyoming, an event that draws thousands each winter.

Given that it’s June, though, Sunshine’s upcoming denim event will look a little different than the others. Throwing on the jean jacket in December is one thing. Laying down some carves in June wearing Wranglers or Levi’s is a different story.

The summer skiing at Sunshine—and the summer denim skiing at Sunshine—was made possible by an unusually snowy winter in Alberta.

During the 2025-26 season, storm after storm paraded through the province, helping Sunshine notch its third-highest precipitation total on record. That prompted the resort to reopen for a few more weeks starting on June 20 with plans to keep the lifts spinning until July 5. In 2022, Sunshine revived a 1990s tradition of hosting summer skiing when conditions allow.

According to Sunshine’s mountain report, three lifts are open. The gondola provides access to the upper mountain base area with the Standish and Strawberry lifts to choose from. Eleven trails are open, making for a sizable chunk of terrain given the time of year.

Beyond Alberta, most summer ski opportunities have already dried up, but there are a few other options to choose from.

At Copper Mountain, Colorado, there’s a summer hike park with real snow and freestyle features. Timberline Lodge, Oregon, as usual, is continuing to offer skiing on its famed Palmer snowfield.
