Mount Rainier National Park Issues Parkwide Fire Ban To Reduce Wildfire Dangers

ASHFORD, Wash. – Mount Rainier National Park has taken an aggressive step to prevent wildfires with the issuance of a parkwide fire ban beginning Friday, June 26, 2026. Until the fire ban is lifted, all campfires and the ignition of wood, briquettes, or any fuel in fire pits, fire pans, and barbeque grills will be prohibited.

Use of portable, petroleum-filled cooking stoves, heating devices, and/or lanterns using liquefied or bottled fuel is still permitted at Mount Rainer provided such devices can be turned off.

 
Dry conditions, high temperatures and an abundance of downed trees in campgrounds necessitate the fire ban. Mount Rainer officials want to remind visitors that discharging any kind of fireworks, tracer ammunition or other incendiary devices in any location on federal lands is always prohibited.

If you see smoke or flames inside the Mount Rainer National Park or on nearby lands, please dial 911 or notify a ranger.
