Utah's Cottonwood Fire Explodes To 59,000 Acres, Ski Resort Likely Affected
The Cottonwood Fire continues to rage near Beaver, Utah.
When POWDERfirst reported on the blaze yesterday, it had grown to more than 10,000 acres in less than 24 hours. As of this morning, June 24, the inferno has exploded to more than 59,000 acres. According to Watch Duty, the fire is 0% contained.
The U.S. Forest Service – Fishlake National Forest posted the following message last night before the blaze grew to more than 59,000 acres:
“The Cottonwood fire has grown to approximately 31,000 acres with 0% containment due to high temperatures, gusty winds, and extremely dry fuels. The fire is very active and exhibiting extreme fire behavior, so please stay alert, stay out of the area, and keep an eye on official updates.”
Evacuation orders remain in place for HiLo Estates, Merchant Valley, Eagle Point, Arrowhead Summer homes, and surrounding areas.
The fire hadn’t reached Eagle Point yesterday, a beloved ski resort on Utah’s SR-153, but preliminary maps from Watch Duty and Google Maps show that the fire has likely scorched the resort as of this morning. See below.
