Major Ski Resort Company To Acquire Three Golf Courses in Arizona

The reach of Mountain Capital Partners (MCP), a Durango-based ski and summer resort group, is expanding.

This time, though, the new digs aren’t a ski resort. Instead, alongside Texas Capital Partners, MCP plans to pick up The Arizona Hideaway Collection, a collection of three resort and golf courses: Tubac Golf Resort & Spa, Sedona Golf Resort, and Rancho Mañana Golf Club.

Tubac Golf Resort & Spa has been open since 1959. Sedona Golf Resort is set among Arizona’s famed red rock formations. Rancho Mañana Golf Club, built on a historic 1940s dude ranch in Cave Creek, has been recognized by Golf Digest as a Top 10 Arizona course.

“We are fueled by freedom, happiness and purpose, and those aren’t limited to ski areas,” said James Coleman, founder and managing partner of MCP, in a news release. “When we’re not skiing, we’re mountain biking, exploring trails, rafting rivers—and of course, golfing. We are anchored in skiing and snowboarding, and that will never change—but we are also more. The Arizona Hideaway Collection is proof of that.”

MCP will buy the destinations from the Allred Family, who, according to the release, have a deep legacy in outdoor recreation.

Before founding the Arizona Hideaway Collection, the Allreds “helped transform Telluride, Colorado into a world-class ski destination in the late 1970s through the late 1990s,” the release noted.

“My father and I spent decades building places that we believe in—places with history, character, and a sense of belonging,” said Mike Allred, president and CFO of The Arizona Hideaway Collection, in the release. “Passing the Collection to Mountain Capital Partners feels right because of the passion they have for these assets and what they represent.”

Current management and operating teams at all three courses are sticking around. All existing reservations, memberships, weddings, and group events will be honored, MCP said.

For MCP, the purchase marks another step in years of continued growth, including the acquisition of two Chilean ski resorts, La Parva and Valle Nevado. Outside of skiing, it acquired Show Low golf properties in 2023 and owns Spider Mountain Bike Park in Texas.

MCP is the third-largest ski resort operator in the U.S., occupying a unique niche largely focused on the American Southwest. It operates ski resorts such as Purgatory in Colorado, Lee Canyon in Nevada, and Pajarito Mountain in New Mexico. Just like Vail and Alterra, the company also sells its own multi-pass, the Power Pass.
