2 North American Ski Areas Are Open This Weekend, And 2 More Might Reopen In The Coming Weeks

Summer skiing on Timberline Lodge's Palmer Snowfield.

Believe it or not, skiing outside in the United States is still very much possible despite it being near mid-June. There aren’t many places left, and those that are left have limited terrain, but if you want to ski this weekend, you can. These are the last open outdoor ski areas in North America.

Open Ski Areas in North American

Copper Mountain, Colorado – Colorado’s Copper Mountain does not have public lift-accessed skiing (those hoping to ride chairlifts can sign up for a Woodward Summer Camp Session), but it does have public skiing and snowboarding through the resort’s hike-park. The park is open Thursdays through Sundays for as long as conditions allow, with day tickets costing $25. Head to their website to learn more.

Timberline Lodge, Oregon – Timberline Lodge typically hosts the longest ski season in the United States, with Palmer Lift spinning from 8:30am to 1:30pm every day and both private training lanes and public lanes available. The Palmer Snowfield generally stays open into August, providing training for racers, freestyle athletes, and those who just want to get out on some snow.

Ski Areas Set to Reopen in North America

Beartooth Basin, Wyoming – Wyoming’s summer-only ski area has been closed for a few weeks now thanks to necessary lift maintenance. It’s not clear when they’ll reopen, as the website says they’ll be closed at least through today, June 12th, but tickets aren’t available on their website for tomorrow. The initial closing date for Beartooth Basin was planned ot be around June 14th, so we’ll see if they manage to reopen at all.

Banff Sunshine Village, Alberta- Canadian skiers and snowboarders (or Americans who choose to travel to Canada) will be able to hit the slopes of Banff Sunshine Village from June 20th through July 5th. Terrain will be available at least off the Strawberry Express chairlift, though it’s unclear exactly what will be open. You can learn more about these bonus 16 days here.
