Snow Keeps Flying Ahead of Canadian Ski Resort's June Reopening

Up in Banff, Alberta, winter doesn’t seem interested in quitting.

After a memorable season at Banff Sunshine Village that saw powder galore, it just keeps snowing. The ski resort recently shared more photos from its webcams on social media.

Is it June? Sure doesn’t look like it. Check out the photos captured on Sunday, June 7, 2026, below. The resort has recorded 22 cm (9 inches) of snow over the last seven days.

This past winter around Banff was a big one

Lake Louise, another mountain in the neighborhood, set a new overall snowfall record. Sunshine Village had one of its highest precipitation seasons on record. Mt. Norquay cracked its top ten snowiest winters on record.

Given how many other resorts out West dealt with warm weather and thin snowpacks, the pattern up north marked a surprising contrast—and served as a reminder that western North America is a big place. At least one region is bound to buck the overall trend.

If you missed out, don’t fret. In 2022, Sunshine Village resurrected the tradition of offering a few days of summer skiing when possible.

Unsurprisingly, this season fits the bill. A quick cruise through the resort’s webcams shows surprisingly consistent coverage. That aligns with the numbers shared on Sunshine’s website. On the upper mountain, around five feet of snow is still on the ground.

The ingredients, clearly, are there for a little more skiing. So, Sunshine’s doing just that. The resort plans to reopen on June 20 and stay through July 5, with skiing off the Strawberry Express lift. You can stay posted by following Sunshine’s Instagram page

Beyond Sunshine Village, though, opportunities to ski and ride chairlifts this month are melting fast.

Mammoth Mountain, California, just sent off its season on June 7. Timberline Lodge, Oregon, is, as usual, still in the game with its signature mix of freestyle action, slush, and Mt. Hood views. Beartooth Basin, on the Wyoming-Montana border, plans to reopen on June 12, pending lift repairs.
