People Were Still Shredding Tuckerman Ravine This Past Weekend

New Hampshire It looked like the ski season was ending in New England. Killington closed for the season on Memorial Day, and the snow in the upper elevations was melting out. Then something funny happened.

On Saturday morning, the upper elevations of New England woke up to new snow. Typically, during late-spring storms, it’s left to the highest elevations, such as Mt. Washington. However, this one reached lower elevations, with snow sightings at ski resorts across Northern New England.

Mt. Washington got more than a dusting, with the Observatory reporting nearly six inches of snow. The Auto Road, which has been open since April, reportedly had to clear drifts of 3-4 feet before reopening the whole road on Sunday.

Some brave souls ventured up to Mt. Washington over the weekend, some of whom decided to earn some turns in Tuckerman Ravine. Conditions looked firm, but carvable.

Unfortunately, warm weather has returned to New England, likely leading to the conclusion of most snow adventures. If you’re still looking for snow, the Mt. Washington Snowfields are likely the last place to go for consistent turns. Unless you think the last snow piles at Killington or Waterville Valley look appealing.
