Grant Helps More Children To Ski in Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland broadband provider Fibrus has launched a new £50,000 Play it Forward Fund, offering grants of up to £1,000 to grassroots sports clubs to help them buy equipment, upgrade facilities and widen opportunities for young people. Now in its fourth year, the programme is designed to support community clubs that keep children active, social and connected away from screens.
Among last year’s beneficiaries was Ski Ability NI, a Craigavon-based charity providing ski instruction for children with additional needs. The organisation used its grant to extend hire time at the Craigavon dry slope, allowing more young people aged five to 18 to take part. The charity works with a wide range of abilities and has previously supported athletes who have gone on to compete nationally and internationally.
“We firmly believe that sport should be available to all within our community,” said Philip Shields, Secretary of Ski Ability NI.
He said the funding had a significant impact, enabling the club to welcome more young people and introduce skiing to children who might not otherwise have the chance. Around 50 young members directly benefited from the support, helping more families access inclusive sporting opportunities.
“We understand the pressures many community clubs face,” added Linda McMillan, Chief People Officer at Fibrus. “We are pleased to offer practical support that helps them continue providing valuable opportunities for young people.”
