Why Pro Skiers Are Flocking to a Power Plant in Copenhagen This June

As spring turns to summer, a crew of talented European skiers will once again descend on Copenhagen, Denmark.

Their target? It’s not a real mountain, obviously—Copenhagen is too flat for that. Instead, on June 13, 2026, they’ll shack up at CopenHill, an artificial ski area built on top of a power plant.

The event, now in its sixth edition, is called the Scandinavian Team Battle and known as the world’s largest ski competition on fake snow. Rather than flakes, the skiers slide down Neveplast, a green plastic-y surface. To keep their planks slick, they use a silicone-based lubricant.

They’ll also spend plenty of time in the air. The confirmed roster so far features well-known freestyle skiers like Jesper Tjäder and Max Moffat. In previous years, the course included rails, jumps, and other jib features so athletes could showcase their skills.

Here are some wild visuals from the past at CopenHill.

This isn’t your usual slopestyle competition with strict rules. Past events have seen skiers leaping over inflatable pools and sliding on rails hoisted in the air by their fellow competitors. If this rings any bells, it has some of the same flavor as the Orage Masters, a beloved but bygone event where silliness reigned.

“Scandinavian Team Battle is about much more than skiing on plastic—it’s a celebration of ski culture, the city, and the local community,” said Jakob Ebskamp, event organizer and skier for Team Denmark. “I’m beyond stoked to once again welcome some of the biggest names in the sport to my hometown.”

Similar to last year, the organizers aren’t just inviting top pros. Anyone can enter a qualifier jam before the main event. If they win, they’ll earn a ticket to the big show, plus  VIP tickets to both the competition and the official afterparty. More prizes will be on tap throughout the day.
