Mammoth Mountain Extends Ski Season Again Ahead of Spring Snow Storm
Well, don’t stow the skis away quite yet.
After already pushing its season until the end of May, Mammoth Mountain, California, just announced that skiers and snowboarders can look forward to another week of snowy action through June 7, 2026.Â
“In true Mammoth fashion, we’ll keep skiing and riding as long as conditions allow,” the resort announced. “With cold temps, solid coverage, and fresh snow in the forecast this week, lifts are now scheduled to spin through Sunday, June 7!”
Cold temps, indeed. It may come as a shock to those who don’t frequent Mammoth, but the ski area’s known for its late-season storms. Last season, I found myself caught in a full-on blizzard there in the middle of May, making for one of my more memorable ski experiences.Â
As for this upcoming round of wintry weather, the National Weather Service expects mixed precipitation—that is, rain and snow—at around 8,000 feet, the elevation of Mammoth’s lowest base area (the resort tops out at about 11,000 feet). OpenSnow—the ski-focused forecast platform—as of now, is pegging the five-day total at ten inches.
Given the time of year, we’d hesitate to recommend powder skis, but deep snow or not, the cooler weather is clearly good news for Mammoth and the prospect of more skiing.

Operations-wise, Mammoth will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. going forward. The Panorama Gondola is now closed for annual maintenance. On the morning of Tuesday, May 26, all of Mammoth’s lifts were on hold due to wind (you can check the mountain report for the latest updates). The resort also noted that it is “keeping a close eye on potential weather impacts moving in this week.”
Biking and the golf courses at Mammoth are now open for business, too, conditions permitting, opening the prospect of three-sport days.
Mammoth’s latest extension comes at the end of a challenging, often snowless season for many of North America’s western ski resorts.Â
Unsurprisingly, the bumpy weather culled the field of warm-month ski resort contenders out West. During most seasons, it wouldn’t be unusual, for instance, for Arapahoe Basin, Colorado, to also be open this time of year. But that resort shut down operations over a week ago, on May 17.
Yet, against the apparent odds, Mammoth is still going.
