The Season Is Coming To an End at Mammoth, but Not Before One Last Hurrah
The end is almost here.
Mammoth Mountain, California, recently pushed its ski season until May 31, 2026. Now, it’s official: that Sunday will be the ski resort’s last day of the season.
Mammoth broke the news on social media, sharing details on what skiers can expect in the coming days, operation-wise.
Through May 25, from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Broadway Express (1), Face Lift Express (3), Chair 23, and the Panorama Gondola will be open, conditions permitting. The High-Five Express (5) will spin from May 22 through May 25. Starting May 26, lift hours shift to 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The resort added that the Panorama gondola will be closed from May 26 to June 12 for annual maintenance.
Skiing’s not the only thing on tap at Mammoth.
On May 22, the bike park opens for daily operations, with the shuttle running from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for access to the Shotgun, Big Ring, Uptown, and Downtown trails. The resort hopes to have Smooth Operator open by Saturday.
Meanwhile, Mammoth’s two golf courses—the Sierra Star and Snowcreek—are open daily starting at 7:00 a.m. The Sierra Star is 18 holes. The Snowcreek is 9 holes.
“We are heading into one of the best weekends of the year where you can literally ski, bike, and golf all in the same day,” the resort wrote in its social media post.
For Mammoth, the upcoming closing date isn’t earlier-than-expected, but it does serve as a reminder of how much this season challenged western mountains.

In bountiful snow years, Mammoth has stayed open for skiing until June, July, or even August. But this season, from California to Colorado, resorts struggled with warm weather and lack of snow, sometimes in dramatic fashion. Mammoth tallied 293 inches this winter, coming in below its average snowfall of around 400 inches.
This Memorial Day Weekend, Mammoth joins just a few other resorts in offering skiing.
Boyne Mountain, Michigan, will be open, as will Palisades Tahoe, California, and Timberline Lodge, Oregon. Killington, Vermont, will offer skiing on its Superstar trail, too.
Once the holiday is over, Mammoth is expected to become one of only a few outdoor ski resorts open in North America. Beartooth Basin, Wyoming, a small summer-only mountain, also plans to open on Memorial Day, give or take a few days.
