Polish Mountaineer Skis Down Everest Without Supplementary Oxygen or Guide Support
Bartek Ziemski completed the feat under his own steam without a back-up team helping with the gear & equipment, and guiding him through the treacherous Khumbu Icefall.
He carried his own tent, supplies, and skis up the mountain and then navigated his own path down.
The first person to climb and ski down Everest without supplementary oxygen was his countryman, Andrzej Bargiel, who completed the run in September 2025.
He had guide and sherpa support.
Seven days earlier than his Everest triumph Bartek Ziemski achieved the same feat on the neighbouring mountain of Lhotse (8,516m), the fourth highest peak in the world.
He is attempting to ski down all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks without supplementary oxygen.
He has completed nine 8,000m ski descents so far:
- 2022 – Broad Peak & Gasherbrum II
- 2023 – Annapurna I & Dhaulagiri
- 2024 – Makalu & Kangchenjunga
- 2025 – Manaslu
- 2026 – Lhotse & Mount Everest
Five peaks remain:
Cho Oyu, Shisha Pangma, Gasherbrum I, Nanga Parbat, and K2.
