Michigan Ski Area Prepares To Make Memorial Day History With Its Latest Closing Date Ever
Boyne Mountain, in Michigan, is preparing to make history.
The resort plans to be open for skiing this Saturday and Sunday (May 23 and 24) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., continuing with springtime weekends-only operations. Plus, according to its snow report, Boyne will offer skiing on May 25, 2026, or Memorial Day, which will be its latest closing date ever.
All the action revolves around the Victor “glacier,” a manicured slab of snow that’s between six and seven feet deep. This makes for an unusual sight. While most of Boyne Mountain is green, one path remains white.
“Victor Glacier is still stacked. Michigan’s longest season ever ends Monday. Get up here,” the resort’s staff wrote.
To celebrate the send-off, Boyne Mountain is offering coffee and donuts on Saturday, as well as hosting a silent auction alongside the Boyne Forever Foundation, which includes Shaggy’s Skis and Salomon Strive bindings.

Earlier this month, Boyne Mountain also hosted the Boho Bash, an event honoring its friendly rivalry with Mount Bohemia—another ski area in Michigan—to see who can stay open the longest. During the party, Mount Bohemia passholders skied for free.
Boyne Mountain’s not the only ski area making history.
This spring has seen at least two other unlikely-seeming resorts lead record-breaking pushes. Black Mountain, New Hampshire, just finished its latest closing day ever last weekend. Camelback Resort, Pennsylvania, lasted until May 5, marking its latest closing day by nearly a month.
All these ski areas may not have the same advantages as taller peaks out West, but they’ve more than made up for it with dedication, pooling snow on specific trails to keep winter going as long as possible.
On the other side of the Mississippi, a few more mountains are hanging after a turbulent and often snowless season.
Mammoth Mountain and Palisades Tahoe, California, both plan to offer skiing over Memorial Day Weekend. Timberline Lodge, Oregon—the famed summer skiing hang-out—will be spinning its lifts then, too. Finally, skiers should keep their eyes on the summer-only ski area, Beartooth Basin, Wyoming, which plans to open in the coming days.
