Canadian Ski Resort Is Ending Its Exceptionally Snowy Season With a Final May Storm
It appears winter isn’t over at Banff Sunshine Village.
The Canadian ski area, which has already loads of snow, is getting hit with even more flakes. Resort webcams showed a dusting of fresh snow and some golf-ball-like conditions that were further indicative of more precipitation on the morning of May 14.Â
Forecasts are showing that early precipitation in this storm might come in a bit on the wetter side, before turning to lower-density snow later on.
By Friday, May 15, Sunshine Village could see up to an inch of cold snow and more Friday night and into the weekend. Another one to three inches is projected for Friday night and three to seven inches on Saturday. The storm will peter out after one to three more inches on Saturday evening, right in time for the Sunshine Village Slush Cup and their spring closing day.
Sunday, May 18, marks the end of normal spring operations for Sunshine Village, and it looks like this storm might give the perfect closing day refresh.

As of May 14, Sunshine Village has seen nearly 400 inches of snow. The upper mountain base is still almost seven feet deep. While this storm is only forecasted to bring a maximum of roughly nine inches, it certainly doesn’t hurt those numbers.
Between November 2 and December 31, Banff Sunshine Village recorded 164 inches, marking its fourth snowiest opening season on record.
Given all that snowfall, Sunshine Village also recently announced that they’d be reopening for sixteen more days of summer skiing.Â
For the bonus season, the ski area will reopen its Strawberry Express Lift, Sunshine Village Lodge, and potentially one more lift from June 20 until July 6. More information on their reopening will be available closer to June. In the meantime, skiers have a few more days to enjoy this late-season storm and coverage at Sunshine Village.
