This Vancouver Ski Area Might Be the Most Scenic in North America
Cypress Mountain sits directly north of Vancouver inside Cypress Provincial Park, and it makes absolutely no effort to hide that fact. Slopes look out over the city’s high-rise skyline, the surrounding mountain ranges, and the various bodies of water winding through the region. Beyond the views, Cypress sees fairly strong snow totals each winter and offers a decent variety of terrain to match. It offers a legitimate ski area, not just a pretty backdrop.
That said the resort is not without its limitations. The skiable footprint comes in at around 550 acres, which is on the smaller side. Its low elevation and proximity to the Pacific means rain events are a regular occurrence throughout the season, and on the good days when snow is falling and skies are clear, crowds from the Vancouver metro pour in fast.
But if you find yourself in Vancouver and want to get on snow, Cypress delivers an experience that is genuinely hard to replicate anywhere else. The combination of urban proximity, ocean views, and mountain terrain creates something that bigger and snowier resorts simply cannot offer. Sometimes the setting matters as much as the skiing, and at Cypress the setting is world class.
