Palisades Tahoe, California, Reveals When the Ski Season Will End
After a warm and often challenging winter, Palisades Tahoe, California, has announced when it plans to wrap up the ski season: May 24.
“With over a week left in the season, let’s make the most of every turn, every chairlift ride, and every spring day spent in the mountains with our friends,” the resort wrote on social media. “More than anything, this time of year is a reminder that it’s the people who make Palisades Tahoe special.”
The announcement marks a notable turnaround for Palisades Tahoe.Â
Around a month ago, the ski resort planned to close in late April. March not only produced no snow at Palisades Tahoe but also brought a record-breaking heatwave. That simmered snowpacks and hastened the closures of mountains around Lake Tahoe and across the West.
But in April, the snow spigots turned back on. A late-season storm brought feet of snow and allowed Palisades Tahoe to open some of its more serious terrain, like the Chimney. Soon afterward, the resort changed course: May skiing was back on the menu.
“The fact that we’re still skiing today is a testament to the creativity, commitment, and nonstop effort from our mountain operations teams,” a recent blog post penned by Palisades Tahoe’s operations team reads.

Palisades Tahoe also shared its plans for the coming days.
It’s likely, the resort said, that the Gold Coast Express and terrain park will remain open through May 24. The Shirley Lake Express is expected to close sometime between May 18 and May 21, as snow coverage along the route back from Shirley Ridge is getting thin. Meanwhile, the Siberia Express has called it quits as of Tuesday, May 12.
As is often the case, Palisades Tahoe is one of only two ski resorts still operating in California. The other, Mammoth Mountain, aims to stay open through at least Memorial Day. It hasn’t shared a specific closing timeline yet.
During its closing weekend, Palisades Tahoe plans to host the Made in Tahoe Spring Festival, a free event with live music, drinks, local art, and vendors.
