The Mountain Bike Obstacle That Could End Your Race With a Splash

Floating bridge at a mountain bike race.

South Africa’s KAP sani2c is a pretty unique mountain bike race, running over 3 days and around 165 miles (270km) from the Drakensberg mountains to the sea at Scottburgh. It features a ton of single track through a gorgeous and intense course with plenty of climbing and descending to get any rider’s heart racing, but the most unique feature is undoubtedly the PG Bison Floating Bridge.

The floating bridge runs for 200 meters across and includes two separate route options. The right bridge is faster but it’s also more difficult, leaving you more likely to drop in the water and go for an accidental swim. The left bridge is a bit easier and more likely to keep you dry, but it does take a bit more time to cross. Together the routes force you to ask whether you risk it for the time, or play it safe.

They’re easily among the most unique feature we’ve seen in a mountain bike race, and one that seems to fit quite well with the KAP sani2c. If you’re interested in learning more about the race, make sure to check out their website.
