Summer Skiing in The Alps & Beyond
The glacier area of Zermatt/Cervinia is now the only ski area in the Alps that aims to be open 365 days a year.
Cervinia made its announcement earlier as a new lift improves access.

Hintertux in Austria used to try to open all year but it now planning to close on 26th July.
“After that, we’ll enjoy the glacier summer to the fullest off the slopes,” the resort says on its web site.
Skiing is expected to restart in September 2026 and the ‘Hintertux Park Opening’ is scheduled for early October.
Hintertux does not say whether this is a permanent end to year-round skiing, or just for this year.
Other ski areas that will be open in the summer include Saas-Fee in Switzerland (18th July to 31st October) and Tignes in France (20th June to 19th July).
The French resort of Les2Alpes remains open for spring and summer skiing and saw 70cm of fresh snow last week.
The glacier is in excellent conditions and there is some skiing away from the glacier down to 2,600m.

The resort is open until July 5th so the latest snow sets thing up well.
Here are the other glacier areas still open in the Alps, with most shutting later this month.
- Stubai, Austria.
- Kaunertal, Austria.
- Kitzsteinhorn, Austria.
- Mölltal, Austria
- Val Senales, Italy..
Kaunertal was planning to be open until May 25th, but it announced on Friday that it has brought the date forward by a week to May 17th due to a diminishing snowpack.
More snow is set to fall in the Alps this week and the open glacier areas will benefit.
“This week’s snow forecast is great news for the alpine glaciers, nearly all of which have lower than average snow depths for the middle of May but will see much-needed top-ups over the next few days,” said Fraser Wilkin from weathertoki.co.uk.
“Les 2 Alpes will also see these top-ups, but stands out as an exception, already having above-average snow depths on its glacier area.”
In Canada skiing continues in Sunshine Village near Banff in Alberta after an excellent season.
The resort shuts on 18th May and then reopens in the second half of June for a short summer stint that will run into July.
“Our decision to host summer skiing is thanks to record snowfall,” said the resort.
There is currently a mid-mountain base of 1.82m, and 2.38m on the upper slopes.
The current plan is to open the Strawberry Express and possibly another lift depending on conditions.
That chair runs about halfway up Mount Standish on its eastern side with access to mostly beginner-friendly terrain.
“This season has been a bit of a fairy tale and we couldn’t have written it to be as great as it has turned out to be if we had tried,” said the vice-president of brand and communications for Sunshine, Kendra Scurfield.
“It won’t be like deep powder turns during summer skiing, but it will be slushy summer skiing – high vibes – and just with the novelty of skiing in July in the Canadian Rockies,” she added.
In the USA Snowbird (Utah), Mammoth Mountain (California), Timberline Lodge (Oregon) and Jay Peak (Vermont) remain open.
We are currently checking with a number of other areas and will be updating shortly.
