Park City Mountain Selling Iconic Cabriolet Cabins for $10,000 Each

At Park City Mountain, Utah, the iconic Cabriolet cabins that once transported skiers from a parking lot to the slopes are now on sale with the asking price starting at $10,000. All the proceeds will benefit Park City Community Foundation, a local nonprofit.

“We’re honored to partner with Park City Community Foundation to give these cabins a second life—one that continues to support the future of our local nonprofits,” said Brian Madacsi, president and CEO of the CVMA, in a press release.

In carting the Cabriolet away, Park City Mountain is making room for an upgrade and replacement: a ten-person gondola with enclosed cabins called the Canyons Village Skyway. It’ll feature a mid-station for homeowner and lodge guests and, like the Cabriolet, be free to ride.

Alongside the $10,000 option, Park City Mountain is also collaborating with the Arts Council of Park City & Summit County to turn six of the cabins into art installations. Participation costs $20,000 and includes working with a local artist to hone the vision. The buyer can choose to have a plaque with their name on it.

Beyond that, what happens to the bought Cabriolet cabins is anyone’s guess. Although the organizations running the sale provided some recommendations, like “a backyard gathering spot, sculpture, DJ booth, or decorative feature.”

The Cabriolet’s been a longtime fixture on the Canyons side of Park City. Installed in 2000, the ropeway has ferried a generation or two of skiers up the mountain.

But now, the future’s here. Don’t be surprised, though, if one day, while sipping a drink at a bar, you spot a Cabriolet-shaped reminder of the past in the corner.

“We know the Cabriolet has been more than just a lift in our community. It has been a symbol that marked the start and end of countless days filled with adventure, fun, and memorable connections at Canyons Village,” said Deirdra Walsh, VP and COO of Park City Mountain, in the release.
